Looking for halal food in Ikebukuro? Aliya is a Chinese restaurant worth considering if you want lamb dishes, skewers and a meal to share. My girlfriend and I ate there on a cold March evening. The lamb ribs were our highlight, but there were two practical surprises: a wait for a table despite calling ahead, and no card payments on the day.
This guide focuses on our Aliya Ikebukuro visit, then gives you two other restaurants to compare. I have eaten at Aliya; the additional options are based on their operators’ published information. The restaurant details were checked on October 6, 2026.
Halal food in Ikebukuro: three options to compare
| Restaurant | What to consider it for | Basis for inclusion |
|---|---|---|
| Aliya / アリヤ 清真美食 池袋店 | Chinese dishes, lamb ribs and skewers | Our dinner, plus its halal Chinese business listing. Certification not independently verified. |
| Gyumon Ikebukuro | Wagyu ramen, gyukatsu and sukiyaki | The operator’s current Ikebukuro listing. I have not reviewed a meal there. |
| Nonbee | Wagyu yakiniku and grilled lamb | The operator advertises halal-friendly dining and a prayer space. I have not reviewed a meal there. |
Choose according to the food you want and the assurances you require, rather than treating every restaurant with a halal label as identical. A listing can help you find a place, but specific ingredients, certification and kitchen practices are questions for the restaurant.

Save the Japanese name and full address on your phone. This is the Ikebukuro branch, on the second floor; make sure a search result or booking is for this location. Within the station, follow the signs for your destination side before estimating the walk from an exit.
What we ate at Aliya Halal Restaurant

We ordered several dishes for dinner rather than keeping to one main each. The mix of lamb, skewers, braised beef and mushrooms gave us plenty to try. These are the dishes from our visit, so check the current menu when planning your own order.
- Lamb ribs: juicy and the highlight of our meal. This is the dish I would look for first on a return visit.
- Beef skewers and seitan skewers: we enjoyed the contrast in flavor and texture.
- Sichuan-style spicy braised beef brisket: tender and spicy. Ask about the heat level before ordering if you prefer mild food.
- Oyster mushroom salad: my girlfriend loves mushrooms and chose this as a change from the meat dishes.
- Bao buns: we bought these for takeaway and enjoyed them as a later snack.
If you are eating as a pair, ask about serving sizes before choosing several mains. I would start with the dish you most want to try, add something with a different texture, then decide whether you need more. Ask staff to identify the suitable dishes and sauces for your dietary requirements at the same time.
Seitan is not suitable for someone avoiding gluten, and a meat-free dish is not automatically a verified halal dish. Describe any allergy or dietary restriction clearly before ordering.
Our experience: atmosphere, waiting and payment
The glowing blue tree in the dining room was the detail that caught our attention. It made the space distinctive and gave us something to talk about while settling in from the cold. We enjoyed the dinner, especially the ribs, without needing the restaurant to be a formal occasion.
We had called ahead, but still waited before getting a table. I would clarify whether a phone call has secured a reservation rather than assume it guarantees immediate seating. Leave some room around dinner if you have tickets or another booking later.
The other surprise came at payment. Cards were not accepted that day, and my girlfriend’s sister helped us pay through WeChat. That was our experience at the time. EAT Tokyo now lists cards and mobile payments, so I would ask before ordering and keep cash available as a backup.
I would return for the food, while planning those practical details more carefully. Our dinner does not tell you what every shift, table or future menu will be like, but it gives you a concrete starting point for deciding whether Aliya suits your evening.
How to check Aliya’s halal suitability
Aliya describes its offering as halal Chinese cuisine in its business profile on En no Ichi, and EAT Tokyo also names it as a halal Chinese restaurant. I have not verified a current halal certificate or its scope. This review reports our meal and the published positioning; it is not a certification of the kitchen.
Before ordering, ask the questions that matter to your own requirements. Showing the exact dish on the menu is more useful than asking a broad question about the entire restaurant.
- Which dishes use halal-certified meat, and can you see the supplier or certification details?
- Do the sauces, marinades or stocks contain cooking wine or other alcohol-based ingredients?
- Is there shared preparation equipment or cooking oil that you need to know about?
- Does the restaurant serve alcohol, and does that affect your choice of dining environment?
If staff cannot give you the information you need, choose another option. A lamb-based or pork-free menu by itself does not establish halal suitability. That also applies to other Chinese, Mongolian or Japanese restaurants.
Other options: Gyumon and Nonbee
Gyumon Ikebukuro: the operator’s restaurant list advertises halal wagyu sukiyaki, ramen and gyukatsu at 4F, 2-42-1 Ikebukuro. It lists lunch from 12:00 to 15:00 and dinner from 16:30 to 22:00. Check that branch’s current menu and requirements directly. This is an alternative to research, not a meal I am claiming to have tried.
Nonbee: its own website advertises halal-friendly wagyu yakiniku, lamb and a prayer space at 2F, 2-43-7 Ikebukuro. It states that halal-certified meat facilities and dedicated preparation practices are used. Ask for the current certification details and the scope of the menu if needed. I have not visited it for this review.
For Chinese sharing dishes, my firsthand recommendation here is Aliya. If your priority is ramen or table grilling, compare the other two menus before choosing. I would not rank their food against Aliya without trying it myself.
Planning lunch or dinner in Ikebukuro
Build the outing around one restaurant, rather than spend the evening crossing the area to chase several lists. Check the opening time, allow for a wait and keep a second suitable option saved in case the restaurant is full.
- Before leaving: confirm the correct branch, opening hours and any dietary questions.
- On arrival: check the payment method and waiting time.
- Before ordering: confirm ingredients and serving sizes.
- Before adding another activity: leave room for dinner to run longer than expected.
For a wider food itinerary, my Japanese food guide introduces other dishes you may encounter. It is a general food guide, so check halal suitability separately. I also wrote about Lao Sui Yuan’s Mongolian food; that article should not be treated as confirmation that the restaurant is halal.
After dinner: the rest of our evening
Our evening also included a small gift of ichigo daifuku, a stop at Bar Panorama and some arcade games. The sweet was a personal part of the date, not a verified halal snack recommendation.

At Bar Panorama, beside the cinema on the 12th floor, we enjoyed the large screen and the changing visuals. I had ginger ale and my girlfriend had sangria. This was an optional bar stop from our own evening, not part of the halal restaurant shortlist.
Later, we tried claw machines and won a Baby Yoda plush and a Kaitou Kid figure. Other attempts were less successful. We finished the evening with snow falling through the lights on the way home, an unexpected memory from that March visit.
You can keep the plan simpler: dinner followed by a walk, shopping or an arcade. Choose the activities that fit your preferences and check closing times. There is no need to copy every stop from our date to enjoy a meal in Ikebukuro.
Halal food in Ikebukuro and Aliya FAQ
Where can I find halal food in Ikebukuro?
Aliya is the Chinese restaurant we visited. Gyumon and Nonbee are two additional options whose operators advertise halal food. Use the source links above and confirm the dishes and preparation requirements that matter to you before visiting.
Is Aliya Ikebukuro halal-certified?
Aliya is presented as a halal Chinese restaurant in its business listing and on EAT Tokyo. I have not verified a current certificate or the certification scope. Ask the restaurant directly if formal certification is important to you.
What should I order at Aliya?
The lamb ribs were the highlight of our meal. We also tried beef and seitan skewers, spicy braised beef, oyster mushroom salad and takeaway bao buns. Check the current menu and ingredients rather than assume every dish is unchanged.
Does Aliya accept cards?
Cards were not accepted on the day we visited, and we paid through WeChat. The current EAT Tokyo listing advertises cards and mobile payments. Confirm before ordering and carry cash as a backup.
Do I need to book Aliya?
We called ahead but still waited for a table. Ask whether you have a confirmed reservation and whether you should expect a wait. Allow extra time if another activity follows dinner.

No. Avoiding pork does not establish meat sourcing, sauce ingredients or preparation practices. Ask about the specific dishes you plan to eat, including alcohol-containing seasonings and shared equipment where relevant to your requirements.
Is Bar Panorama a halal dining recommendation?
No. It is included only as part of our personal evening after dinner. We had ginger ale and sangria there. It is an optional bar stop, not a verified halal restaurant recommendation.
